Promote Scala!
Thu, 2011-12-01, 19:24
Someone pointed out to me that the mailing lists have been free of Jovial, fun material lately. As such, I decided to bring back a few memes to help everyone promote scala at their workplace, or on the interwebs.
Here they are for your enjoyment.

I found the best image of language is ruby which is simple, beauty and sexual.
It can make younger interested.
I think scala should not only try to interest experience developers but also new developers who maybe very young and want cool.
Ah. I see your point. What's wrong with the staircase?

Re: Promote Scala!
Ruby uses a ruby gemstone as a logo
Scala uses a staircase (=scala in Italian) as a logo
So both logos refer to the name.
I think the staircase logo also represents that you can learn scala
step by step from simple to advanced.
A ruby gemstone represents passion and power, it's the king of
gemstones.
Both logos represent what it stands for and are tightly connected to
the name.

Well ... taking it a bit more seriously. There seems to be interest by some leaders in JUGs "adopting a JSR".
Would it be reasonable for the "Scala community" to adopt a JEP/JSR we care about? E. g. better class file format/closures/tailcalls?

Well ... taking it a bit more seriously. There seems to be interest by some leaders in JUGs "adopting a JSR".
Would it be reasonable for the "Scala community" to adopt a JEP/JSR we care about? E. g. better class file format/closures/tailcalls?

Re: Promote Scala!
While that is funny - Scala is actually still part of the 1% (or so)
Wink, wink - nudge, nudge

Re: Promote Scala!
1% of the lines of code written for the jvm? I could believe that.

Re: Promote Scala!
Think again.
class Foo { int x = 4; int y = 3;
int getX() = { return x; }
void setX(int x) = { this.x = x; }
int getY() = { return y; }
void setY(int y) = { this.y = y; }}
or consider a Guava lambda. Those lines add up FAST!
Peace. Michael
